Is it Dangerous to install headers without changing the muffler?

I have a 1990 Toyota Celica GT, with the 2.2L 5SFE engine, hooked up to a five speed tranny. I am considering purchasing a set of 4-1 headers for my car. Would this be a bad thing, if I am running on the stock muffler, or would the stock muffler hold back the performance gains in any way?

BTW- would I notice a sound change, if I don't change the muffler?

Thanks in advanceIs it Dangerous to install headers without changing the muffler?well it won't be a problem but i'd suggest to get an aftermarket muffler later on sometime, won't cost much since it would just be one muffler and won't be changing the whole system just the mufflerIs it Dangerous to install headers without changing the muffler?Anything that scavenges the exhaust better than the stock manifold is a good thing - regardless of whether you change the muffler or not.

Go for it.Is it Dangerous to install headers without changing the muffler? It would help performance and millage a little, but you would not hear a noticeable sound difference. Is it Dangerous to install headers without changing the muffler? Not changing the muffler is no big deal and will not cause a problem.

Howver if you want to see some increase in performance and that nice throaty rumble then change the muffler too.

I went with a ferrari exhaust. Looks cool ( 4 pipes ) like the new %26quot;vette%26quot; and gives off a nice sound, but no so loud it attract the police!...Is it Dangerous to install headers without changing the muffler?Dangerous isn't the word I would use!

However, make sure that you purchase your headers and any additional plumbing with the terminal connector to mate to the stock exhaust, or you may find you're stuck fabricating a transition from the aftermarket to the stock.

You'll notice a slightly louder resonance from the front of the car, but it won't be significant - the audible change to the car is going to be largely a function of the piping from the catalytic on back, and the muffler. Is it Dangerous to install headers without changing the muffler? No, it wouldnt be dangerous. Honestly, WHY? If you want to build a project car thats fine but please know that after you dump thousands of dollars in performance parts it will be hard to find a buyer. furthemore you will still only get what the kbb says. Mods are usually not worth any money when it comes to selling the car. Save up your money and buy something you would enjoy instead of dumping all your money. I have an 86 camaro that I put over 20k in it, I would be lucky to get 5k for it.
