Auto-installing programs. How to change directory?

A program installs itself directly into my windows drive C: and I don't want it to be installed there. There is no step with choosing install directory. Is there a way to change where the program is. Maybe moving it manually with cut/paste, but won't that damage the registry connections?Auto-installing programs. How to change directory? This depends heavily on what the program is and what it does during its install process. You are correct in thinking that it's possible that moving the installation directory would prevent the program from working normally, if at all - but it's also possible this is not the case.

Try moving the install folder, then check the program. If it works and does everything you commonly use it for, it's a safe bet that it didn't break when you moved it. If it won't run, or doesn't work right, then you should probably move it back.

It's worth noting that some installers will hide the option of choosing where to install behind an %26quot;Advanced Mode%26quot; button in the installer. Some programs may also be unable to handle being installed anywhere with a space in the folder name - for example, %26quot;C:\Program Files\%26quot; has a space in it, which can cause problems for some older applications. If this is the case, you may want to make a test directory - %26quot;C:\Test\%26quot; and try putting the program in there instead.
