at the moment i am with the post office and i have a modem. I have just bought a laptop and wanted to go wireless. My brother gave me his old sky net gear but it wont work with my post office. I mean you can do it but i dont know how to. Though it does depend on the exact model of router.

The standard linksys G band router, for example, does not require any software installation - it comes WITH software to make it easier for techno-neophytes to work with, but if you sortof know what you're doing, there's no reason to install the software.
