I've heard that you can't really take the same set of strings off and put them back on, but I'm not sure if it would be possible to change the pickups without taking the strings off or not. Yes i believe it would be wise to remove strings while swapping pickups, but i don't see why it would hurt to use the same strings again.
however, it may pay off to spend five bucks and get a set of strings while your at it.
