My windows vista come pre-installed when i purchase my Compaq desktop. If I would like to change the motherboard, how can i get my genuine vista installed again? It didn't come with the installation CD..

Thanks. How to install back genuine vista after changing motherboard?See if the recovery partition is still in your hard disk. There's supposed to be a utility program that came with the computer that will allow you to restore your operating system back to factory defaults. However, If the device drivers that are bundled with the recovery program are designed purely for your original motherboard then you have to load the ones that came with your new motherboard for Vista to run normally.

Also, while the recovery partition is still in your yard disk, I suggest that you create a copy to a DVD so that in case something goes wrong with the hard disk, you don't need to order a disk from your dealer. However, if the recovery partition is no longer there then you have no option but to buy a new copy of Windows operating system. How to install back genuine vista after changing motherboard? You have to have a Vista CD in order to do a fresh install.
