If you remove the catalytic converter to install dual exhaust do you have to change the computer chip?

I own a 1995 GMC pickup that does not require emission testing. It has 110,000 miles and the exhaust is rusting away. It has a single exhaust system and I would like dual exhaust. I keep hearing about this co-chip but nobody here knows much about it.If you remove the catalytic converter to install dual exhaust do you have to change the computer chip? The only computer problem you may run into is if you remove the exhaust pipe all the way to the manifold and do away with the O2 sensor. I have heard of this chip that makes the computer think there is an O2 sensor in place when they are removed. If the shop does take the orginal exhaust out they can get an aftermarket bung and weld it into the pipe allowing the O2 sensor to be reinstalled. Sometimes on computer controlled vehicles if you get the exhaust too free flowing you can create an overscavenging condition in the engine which may affect your EGR system. I removed the cat on an 89 K10 without any ill effect :)If you remove the catalytic converter to install dual exhaust do you have to change the computer chip?I kept hearing about a chip too, but it turns out that is one of the %26quot;Everybody knows%26quot; things that is urban legend. Turns out you can't remove the catalytic converter, and if you go dual you will actually need two of them put in because of the necessity of the O虏 sensors. Just hit a muffler shop that know what they are doing and they can get you going. Be aware though that catalytic converters are NOT cheap, x 2 now.If you remove the catalytic converter to install dual exhaust do you have to change the computer chip?It really boils down to whether or not there is an O2 sensor after the cat? My '86 %26amp; '91 vintage GM vehicles do not - the chip would likely never know the difference. But most '96 and newer have one before and after the cat as a minimum - not sure about your '95 but it's easy for you to check. If you remove the catalytic converter to install dual exhaust do you have to change the computer chip? The chip you are talking about is an Oxygen sensor simulator..... you plug this into where the O2 sensor would go. If you remove the cat converters you must use the O2 simulator.... or your computer will throw codes. Another alternative is to get a high flow cat from eBay they go for $50. A high flow cat will only effect performance by less than 1/2 a Horsepower.
