Why do you need to change a sata2 hard drive to IDE mode to install windows XP?

I tried to install XP when I left the sata mode as raid but nothing happened and it asked me if i wanted to boot from vista or nothing=(. I changed the settings to make the computer recognize sata as IDE and it worked=). I'm wondering why this happens. Why do you need to change a sata2 hard drive to IDE mode to install windows XP?If you want to install XP on a RAID array, you have to press F6 when the setup program prompts you, then load the RAID drivers.

This applies to both IDE and SATA RAID setups. Why do you need to change a sata2 hard drive to IDE mode to install windows XP?Hey Lon Z so how u get ur computer to recognixe the sata hd as an ide hd?
