What do i need to change in my car to install a turbocharger?

i heard from someone that i need to change the manifolds, and body throttle to install a turbo on my stock car.... can someone please tell me if this is true, and i wanna know if the turbo could be harmful to the car. thxWhat do i need to change in my car to install a turbocharger? It's not as simple as just slapping on a turbo and having a turbo charged car. First, you need to find out where it's going to fit. Then you have to figure out how to cool it, since most require some means of cooling off, and you'll need to protect everything around it. Also, you will need to change your exhaust manifolds as well as your entire intake system, not just your throttle body.

In reality, you should go inside and reinforce the engine. A turbo will change the compression within the engine to a level that your engine and it's components were not meant to see, especially since this is stock....gaskets, valves, cam, etc.

I assume you think you're going to race this thing or something, or just want a faster car? Skip the trurbo. If you're asking automotive tech questions like that on Answers, then you have no idea what you're doing under the hood. I don't mean to be offensive, I'm just trying to save you a buck and the hassle of blowing up your engine for something like this.

A turbo isn't just some cheap modification like a K%26amp;N intake or a more open exhaust (both of which I'd suggest well before a turbo) and isn't typically a bolt-on application. Start with the airflow...like I said, an intake and exhaust. Then, reprogram the computer if you can, and tinker with some of the factory settings. After that, the rest of your changes will likely be internal. You can't just throw gobs of horsepower at a stock engine and expect it to hold.

Ultimately...give up the turbo idea. What do i need to change in my car to install a turbocharger?Depends on the car. You will have to change your exhaust and intake systems no matter what though. As for having the specifically change the manifolds it will greatly depend on where you install the turbo. Throttle body shouldn't have to be touched though. What do i need to change in my car to install a turbocharger? Please specify the car! What do i need to change in my car to install a turbocharger?your car. What do i need to change in my car to install a turbocharger?best if you could change,

1. cylinder head ( make sure you fit the correct gasket for the head-non turbo ones are different *take note)

2. manifold (both inlet and exhaust)

3. fuel injectors

4. for best results, pistons (coz non turbo piston is higher), and normally you must wire an air flow controller unit to adjust the air and fuel for best result.

hope it helps, Merry Christmas.
