If you install a credit checker does it change your credit score?

When you say %26quot;credit checker,%26quot; do you mean subscribing to a credit reporting/monitoring service like www.freecreditreport.com? If so, it will not lower your credit score to use such a service. Whenever you obtain your credit information or someone obtains it for you for personal use, this is called a %26quot;soft report.%26quot; It does not appear on your credit report. The same is true if your credit card issuer or bank checks your credit related to your current accounts with them (but NOT if you want to open new revolving or installment accounts).

However, if anyone else checks your credit because you are seeking new credit, signing a rental agreement, receiving a background check, or for other reasons, this will appear on your credit record (a %26quot;hard report%26quot;). This will temporarily lower your credit score.
